After being the first president to get impeached twice, Donald Trump is now the first one to be convicted of a felony (34 of them…so far)

As you likely know by now, twice impeached former President Donald Trump can add “convicted felon” to his list of embarrassing and shameful “accomplishments.”

On Thursday afternoon in a New York City courtroom, Trump was held accountable for falsifying business records in an attempt to deceive the American public before the 2016 election. Twelve ordinary Americans found Trump guilty on 34 felony counts related to falsified checks, ledger entries, and invoices for his attempt to cover up a sex scandal that could have imperiled his 2016 presidential campaign.

There is a lot of injustice in the world, but Trump facing the consequences of his actions is not one of them. Trump’s baseless claims that the trial was a “witch hunt” or that it was “rigged” are an insult to those who have suffered in our criminal justice system. In a world where justice is not always served, especially when it involves the wealthy and powerful, Thursday afternoon’s verdict was an important moment in American history and one that we cannot let get distorted by right-wing disinformation.

Trump has repeatedly shown us that he does not respect the American people or value our democracy. He is scheduled to be sentenced in July, just a few days before the GOP convention, but no matter what the outcome is, voters will have a chance to hold him accountable in November.

Trump has shown no remorse for his actions and continues to run on a platform that promises to take away our rights and endanger our democracy. We must stop him.
