‘Project 2025’ is the right wing’s dream scenario – and it’s shockingly close to becoming a reality

Project 2025, a right-wing Christian Nationalist U.S. government takeover plan put together by Donald Trump’s MAGA loyalists, is finally starting to get the attention it deserves.

While some people have been following the development of the Project 2025 agenda for months now, the reality of this nightmare vision for America has only recently begun to set in following the U.S. Supreme Court’s recent ruling on presidential immunity. 

The right-wing high court recently ruled that there should be broad immunity for any “official” act taken by a president while in office. The ruling was a slap in the face of American democracy. Our nation is founded on the idea that no person, not even the president, is above the law. The SCOTUS ruling essentially allows presidents to act carte blanche on their worst impulses.

This ruling was key to the far-right’s plans to institute the Project 2025 agenda to change our government and way of life. The far-right’s goal, which has been carefully planned for and organized by more than 100 conservative groups, is to create an authoritarian government run by Donald Trump that will roll back decades of social progress while further enriching the wealthy and large corporations.

Here are just a few examples of the impact Project 2025 would have on our country and our rights:

• There would be a nationwide ban on abortion and fertility treatments like IVF.
• The government would be allowed to monitor pregnancies to determine possible prosecution for miscarriages and they would allow employers to deny workers access to birth control.
• LGBTQ+ rights, including marriage equality, would likely be thrown out.
• The Department of Education would be abolished, the Head Start program (which provides preschool education for low-income families) would be eliminated and public schools would be defunded.
• The plan would allow employers to stop paying hourly workers overtime.
• Health care protections would be removed for people with pre-existing conditions, prescription drug prices would increase and Social Security benefits would be cut.

The goal of Project 2025 is to usher in an America where public education isn’t valued or funded, workers’ rights are nonexistent, social safety nets are destroyed, women have no bodily autonomy and LGBTQ+ citizens are forced back into hiding who they are.

This extremist right-wing takeover plan threatens our rights, freedoms and democracy. This is not a joke and it’s no longer just some fascist fantasy, it is disturbingly close to becoming a reality. Now is the time to take Trump and his MAGA loyalists seriously because they are dangerous, extreme, power-hungry and have made it clear they will do whatever it takes to get control of our country.
