Join Us Monday Morning to #ProtectOurVotes

For five months now, losing North Carolina Supreme Court candidate Jefferson Griffin has led a campaign to throw out over 65,000 lawful ballots from the 2024 election in a desperate attempt to rewrite the results of his race. These ballots are from eligible and often longtime voters, and include over 5,500 military and overseas absentee ballots and his opponent Allison Riggs’ own parents.

Griffin’s baseless claims were rejected by both the State Board of Elections and the Wake County Superior Court. So he appealed to the Republican-controlled North Carolina Court of Appeals, where he sits. In a 2-1 decision last Friday, the Republicans on the Court of Appeals panel sided with their colleague. This was a deeply misinformed decision and Justice Riggs quickly appealed the ruling in order to protect voters.

Close judicial elections and recounts are a normal part of North Carolina politics; Griffin’s refusal to concede is not. Griffin’s appeals – in which he is trying to rewrite the election rules after they’ve happened so he can cling to power – is unprecedented, offensive to voters, and sets a dangerous blueprint for how future losing candidates can subvert the will of the voters.

Jefferson Griffin dragging out a race 5 months past Election Day has been a demoralizing extension to an already trying period. We know you’re tired. We are too. But we aren’t ready to give up on our rights or the rights of our neighbors.

That’s why we’re inviting you to join us for a rally on Monday at 10 am in Bicentennial Plaza to speak out.

Justice Allison Riggs will be speaking alongside impacted voters, and together, we will continue our fight to defend every North Carolinian’s fundamental right to have their ballot counted.

Griffin is betting that we’ll lose the will to fight. He’s dead wrong. Join us on Monday morning to make it clear that his efforts are baseless and detrimental to our democracy, and that the will of the voters must stand.
