Statement on Kellyanne Conway anchoring NCGOP convention

RALEIGH — Progress NC Action released the following statement on Tuesday in response to the news that Trump spokesperson Kellyanne “Alternative Facts” Conway will be the keynote speaker of the NCGOP’s upcoming state convention:

“It’s no surprise that the NCGOP is embracing the politics of deception enough to invite Kellyanne ‘Alternative Facts’ Conway to speak at their convention,” said Gerrick Brenner, executive director of Progress NC Action. “North Carolina’s Republican leaders routinely warp the truth on their cuts to public schools, tax increases on working families, voter suppression, and their insatiable thirst to discriminate against LGBT citizens and other minorities.”

It should be noted that NCGOP Executive Director Dallas Woodhouse still refuses to apologize for falsely accusing dozens of North Carolina voters of committing voter fraud last year. Woodhouse also wrongly lambasted the media for reporting on speculation that Republicans intended to pack the State Supreme Court during the special session in December, which then-Gov. McCrory later confirmed when he claimed to have fought the GOP court-packing plan.
