President Biden coming to Raleigh this week to encourage COVID vaccination efforts
On Thursday, President Joe Biden is scheduled to visit Raleigh as part of his continued efforts to encourage people across the country to get vaccinated. This marks President Biden’s first visit to North Carolina since taking office.
The North Carolina visit comes as part of President Biden’s “National Month of Action,” a nationwide effort by the administration to get 70 perfect of adults at least partially vaccinated by July 4.
- According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, about 177 million American adults, or 65 percent of the U.S. population 18 years and older, have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
- In North Carolina, the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services reports that just 55 percent of adults in the state have received a dose of the vaccine.
- On June 10, Governor Roy Cooper announced that he was launching four $1 million cash drawings as an incentive for North Carolina residents to get the COVID-19 vaccine and boost the state’s overall vaccination percentage.
Since taking office less than five months ago, the Biden-Harris administration has led the U.S. into making significant progress in its fight against the pandemic. As a result of Americans doing their part to protect loved ones and community members by getting vaccinated, COVID-19 cases within the U.S. are down over 90 percent and deaths are down over 85 percent since January 20th.
And with continued efforts, towns and cities across North Carolina have the opportunity to join the growing list of cities reaching President Biden’s 70 percent vaccination goal in hopes of our communities’ recovery from this pandemic.
Bottom Line:
Together, we pulled through the challenges COVID-19 imposed on our communities last year, and we can continue our commitment to protecting ourselves, loved ones, and our entire community by making sure we are vaccinated.
