Community Voices Organizer

Organization Overview
Progress North Carolina (PNC) and its sister organization, Progress North Carolina Action (PNCA), serve as North Carolina’s progressive communications hub. We operate as a center for innovative research, data-driven messaging, training, and communication strategies for the progressive community and its elected allies in order to shift the narrative around good governance and reshape what is possible by advocating for progressive policies, leaders and civil servants ready to serve North Carolinians.
Position Overview
PNC & PNCA seeks a dedicated, innovative, and adaptable team player to be responsible for identifying, training, and amplifying the stories of everyday North Carolinians. For example, recruiting people willing to discuss the impact that funding cuts will have on their ability to access healthcare.This position is a new position, and will report to the Managing Director and be part of the Communications Department.
Our team members are low ego, high impact. We are looking for a candidate who is able to collaborate with North Carolinians from all different backgrounds, willing and able to work in-person, nimble, fun-loving, and is not afraid to say when they need help. If this sounds like you, join us!
Duties will include:
- Build a network of diverse storytellers across the state, which will entail in-person recruitment from the mountains to the sea.
- Work with organizational partners to identify leaders and community members who are willing to share their stories.
- Create training opportunities for storytellers, including planning in-person trainings, work with the in-house messaging team to develop curriculum, and offer one-on-one support to participants.
- Identify storytellers for specific campaigns. Organize communications organizations that have the platforms to amplify stories and storytellers.
- Work with media outlets to organize interviews with storytellers.
- Work with in-house content creators to record first-person narratives about the impact of far-right policies. Identify digital platforms for amplification.
- Support organizational partners in their communication campaigns; including in-person support for community and press events.
Strong candidates will have some or all of the following:
- Be passionate, curious, and knowledgeable about progressive policies and causes.
- Demonstrate a high level of cultural competency to make sure all people’s identities and perspectives are considered.
- Previous experience creating organic social media campaigns and content.
- Experience working with broad and diverse coalitions.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ideal candidates will have some or all of the following:
- Experience in narrative shifting work.
- Experience in community organizing.
- An understanding of North Carolina’s political landscape.
Compensation: The annual salary for this position is $65,000. Benefits include medical, dental, and vision insurance (100% employer paid for employee; 50% employer paid for dependents) and paid time off that includes eleven holidays, 10 vacation days, five personal days and 10 sick days per year.
